The University of Oxford’s world famous museum of art and archaeology, the Ashmolean, has started a new video podcast series called ‘Thinking With Things. In each episode in this series, a prominent Oxford academic will talk about a single object tin the museum’s collection and explain the story behind it. The series aims to introduce some of the museum’s treasures to a wide audience, and to encourage people  to seek out their own favourite item in the museum’s vast collections.

The Ashmolean was founded in 1683 and is the world’s first university museum. It has an extraordinarily diverse collection with items from most of the world’s great civilisations, dating from 8000BC to the present day. The museum underwent a major redevelopment in 2009 and is now rated one of the top of the top museums in the UK.

The Thinking with Things podcasts are available from the University of Oxford’s Podcast page or on iTunes. The Ashmolean runs a very active programme of exhibitions and events in Oxford and this series is a very welcome resource for those who are unable to get to the museum in person.
