Event

We will be holding a session on reading Law at Oxford on Friday 19 September. The Dean of the Law Faculty, Professor Timothy Endicott will be joined by Pinsent Masons Professor of Taxation Law, Professor Judith Freedman and alumni and will talk about the different opportunities and unique features of law at Oxford.

The University of Oxford today is home to a unique combination of common law learning and comparative and international jurisprudence. Oxford holds a leading position in connecting teaching and scholarship, common law and civil law, theory and practice.

Law has been taught at Oxford since the 1100s. For centuries law meant the European legal tradition of civil law based on Roman Law, but Oxford was also the first university to engage in the study of the common law when it appointed the world’s first professor of English Law in the 1700s. The Law Faculty at Oxford has continued to be at the forefront of innovation and a meeting place for ideas and gifted teachers and students from around the world, and is now one of the largest faculties of law in the UK.

There are a wide range of courses in the Faculty of Law at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Popular courses for Japanese students include the Masters in Law and Finance which is jointly taught with the Saïd Business School and the MJur which is aimed at outstanding students from civil law jurisdictions, and is unique in the world as a graduate programme delivered through Oxford’s world-renowned tutorial system. There are other postgraduate courses in specialist areas such as Criminology, Intellectual Property Law and Practice, and International Human Rights Law.

Please join us on 19 September to find out more about one of the world’s most exciting centres for legal scholarship and for new legal ideas. Anyone who is interested in studying Law at Oxford is welcome.  Please see here for the English requirements for international students.
