Oxford University Dramatic Society (OUDS) are coming to Japan again this year and will be performing ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Sai-no-kuni Saitama Arts Theatre on 7 August, the theatre of Kyoto University of Art and Design on 11 August, and Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre on 12, 13 and 14 August.

OUDS is Oxford’s student dramatic society. It was established in 1855 and over the course of its long history has produced a large number of international stars in the acting world including Richard Burton, Rowan Atkinson, Kate Beckinsale, Hugh Grant and Felicity Jones. Every year the society works with legendary British stage producer Thelma Holt and the Cameron Mackintosh Foundation on a high profile production of a Shakespeare play that tours in Oxford, Stratford, London and Japan. This year there will be four performances in Tokyo, one in Saitama, and a performance for the first time in Kyoto.

2016 marks the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death and there have been celebrations around the world to commemorate the author’s life and works. A Midsummer Night’s Dream is one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies and as in previous years the OUDS team have been working with Thelma Holt on an extremely innovative and dynamic interpretation of the work.

Tickets for these performances in Japan always sell out quickly and you are advised to make your booking early to avoid disappointment. Please find information on the OUDS Annual Japan Tour here. This flyer gives performance times and information on venues and ticket sales.
