Applications for the 2018 Oxford Uehiro St Cross Visiting Programme are now being accepted. This programme is for graduate students, and postdoctoral and senior academics from Japan to spend up to a year as a Visiting Scholar or Visiting Fellow at the Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics. The deadline for this year’s programme which starts in October 2018 is Thursday 15 March 2018.

The Oxford Uehiro Centre is a groundbreaking centre headed by Professor Julian Savulescu, and is part of the Philosophy Faculty at the University of Oxford. The Oxford Uehiro Centre aims to encourage and support debate and deeper rational reflection on practical ethics. Addressing contemporary world issues that have a huge impact on the future of humankind, such as climate change, global inequality and poverty, and advances in biomedicine, the Oxford Uehiro Centre seeks to promote rigorous and impartial research and debate without favouring a particular philosophy or view.  The Centre also strives to raise public awareness and understanding of ethical issues both in the UK and internationally and does this through lectures, publications and consultations. The Centre received the top ranking in Leiter’s ‘Philosophical Gourmet’ report, widely considered to be the most influential and important in the field.

Full details about the Programme including information on how to apply can be found here. You can read more about the Centre’s work on their website and also in their Practical Ethics blog.
