Oxford University Orchestra will be coming to Japan in March to engage in music outreach – teaching, sharing and performing with students from Fukushima, one of areas worst hit by the East Japan Earthquake in 2011. They will partner with El Sistema Japan and take part in a festival weekend in Soma City.

The University of Oxford is well known for its active music life and the Oxford University Music Society was founded in 1872, making it one of Oxford’s oldest and most prestigious societies. Oxford University Orchestra is the flagship ensemble of the Society and attracts some of Oxford’s most talented musicians.

Thirty members of the Orchestra will be taking part in the Japan Tour. If you would like to make a donation to help make this project happen please take a look at this website. The students have also started a crowdfunding page which you can find here (Japanese only).
