Lecture: Women’s Health
Wednesday 3 August 2022
Professor Stephen Kennedy and Professor Manu Vatish
Nuffield Department of Women’s and Reproductive Health
Wednesday 3 August 2022
The University of Oxford is home to the INTERGROWTH-21st Project, a multi centre, multi-ethnic, population-based study. The study has shown that healthy, well-nourished and educated women, living in a clean environment and receiving appropriate antenatal care, have babies that grow in a similar way in the womb, have a similar size at birth and achieve similar cognitive development and size at 2 years of age, irrespective of the colour of their skin, ethnicity or place of birth.
There is also an Anglo-Japanese collaboration between the University of Oxford and LUCA Science, a pre-clinical biotechnology company based in Japan, using mitochondria as a novel treatment for fetal growth restriction – an unmet need that accounts for half of stillbirths worldwide.
In this session Professor Kennedy and Professor Vatish will talk about their work looking into women’s health and pregnancy. Professor Kennedy’s talk will be entitled “Healthy mothers have healthy babies” and Professor Vatish’s talk will be entitled “New therapies for foetal growth restriction”.
Professor Stephen Kennedy is Professor of Reproductive Medicine, and Professor Manu Vatish is Professor of Obstetrics at the Nuffield Department of Women’s Reproduction and Health.
