Event

“Refugee Economies” : Rethinking Popular Assumptions

Dr Naohiko Omata, Senior Research Officer, Refugee Studies Centre, University of Oxford

In this presentation, Dr Omata will provide an overview of the Refugee Studies Centre, and a snapshot of the Humanitarian Innovation Project for which he is currently working. In particular, he will describe one of the Project’s main research themes – ‘Refugee Economies’ – and present some key research findings which are drawn upon extensive fieldwork in Uganda. He will also draw some implications from these onto issues relating to forced migration and refugees in the context of Japan.

The Refugee Studies Centre (RSC) was founded in 1982 as part of the Oxford Department of International Development at the University of Oxford. Its mission is to build knowledge and understanding of the causes and effects of forced migration in order to help improve the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable people.

Naohiko Omata, PhD, is Senior Research Officer, Humanitarian Innovation Project based at the Refugee Studies Centre, University of Oxford.

This presentation will be delivered in Japanese without interpretation.
