Naohiko Omata, Senior Research Officer at Oxford’s Refugees Studies Centre has published a new book – “The Myth of Self-Reliance – Economic Lives Inside a Liberian Refugee Camp.” The book looks into economic lives of refugee households in Buduburam refugee camp in Ghana, and highlights the considerable economic inequality between refugee households. By following the same refugee households over several years, it also provides valuable insights into refugees’ experiences of repatriation to Liberia after protracted exile and their responses to the ending of refugee status for remaining refugees in Ghana.

Dr Omata has given two popular lectures in the University of Oxford Japan Office looking at the theme of refugee economies.
