The Warden of Wadham College is visiting Japan next month and there will be a dinner for all Wadham alumni on the evening of Saturday 5 April. The Warden of Wadham College is Lord Ken Macdonald QC. Lord Macdonald read PPE (Politics, Philosophy and Economics) at St Edmund Hall, Oxford before going on to study law and becoming a highly prominent barrister in the UK. He served as Director of Public Prosecutions of England and Wales between 2003 – 2008. Throughout his career he has been hugely influential in government and is particularly passionate about criminal justice policy and human rights issues. He became Warden of Wadham in September 2012, succeeding Sir Neil Chalmers, the noted zoologist. Wadham College has a fascinating history. It was founded in 1610 by Dorothy Wadham in accordance with her late husband’s will. Dorothy Wadham overcame many obstacles to the project of founding a new college in Oxford and successfully directed the project to completion from her home in Devon. Given the complexities of travel in that age it is likely that she never actually saw the fruits of her work. Wadham College has a host of famous alumni including Sir Christopher Wren, architect of the Sheldonian Theatre, and Melvyn Bragg, the well-known author and broadcaster, as well as others active in a broad range of fields.  Today Wadham is known as a liberal and progressive college and prides itself on its diverse and friendly atmosphere. The Warden is looking forward to meeting all Japan-based alumni in April, and to sharing all the news from Wadham.
