Professor Takehiko Kariya, Professor Emeritus at the Nissan Institute of Japanese Studies, will give a lecture in central Tokyo on Wednesday 25 November to mark the launch of his latest book, 不平等と教育――日本の格差問題はなぜ解決しないのか
In this lecture, Professor Kariya will examine inequality in the Japanese education system and explore why the problem remains unresolved despite years of discussion among researchers and educators. In particular, he will explore how the use of imported loanwords and translated terms such as 機会、格差、階層 and アクティブラーニング in Japanese discourse can lead to ambiguous understandings of educational inequality, which in turn can contribute to a lack of coherence in policy responses.
The lecture will be followed by a reception. All are welcome.
