A new book by Oxford’s Takehiko Kariya and research collaborator Jeremy Rappleye has recently been published.
The book is entitled “Education, Equality and Meritocracy in a Global Age: The Japanese Approach” and explores Japan’s schooling system which has long been recognised globally as one of the most equitable and meritocratic systems in the world. The book extracts important lessons for how education systems around the world can achieve more equitable outcomes for all learners.
Takehiko Kariya is Professor in the Sociology of Japanese Society at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of St Antony’s College. Jeremy Rappleye is Associate Professor at Kyoto University and holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford.
