Oxford Academics in Japan Lecture Series
“Why should we care about Biodiversity?”
By Professor Sarah Harper CBE, Clore Professor of Gerontology
Most people have heard of climate change – but what about Biodiversity?
The Earth is losing biodiversity at rates not before seen in the modern era, we may be on the brink of a mass extinction event. And we as a human population are responsible for this. And that is why Professor Sarah Harper, as a demographer, needs to understand the interaction of people and ecosystems – and why it matters.
Professor Sarah Harper CBE is the Clore Professor of Gerontology at the University of Oxford, a Fellow at University College, and Director of the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing. She is one of the world’s leading authorities on global population trends and their economic, political, environmental and social impact. She speaks with enormous experience as a long-term advisor to Corporates and to governments in Europe and Asia.
